‘RMIT HUNGRY TALKS’ 2021

︎ ︎ ︎ ︎

Hungry Talks is student-led live online seminar series that connects advertising industry professionals with emerging young creatives of RMIT’s Bachelor of Advertising students. This year, our team restructured the long legacy of Hungry Talks into a 70s game show themed online series.

Hungry Talks had previously been presented in person at a lecture hall or online through Teams, but the sky was our limit and we wanted to do bigger things. So, we decided to collaborate with RMIT’s Live Media students to present a polished live production on a professional scale.

Soon before we knew it, our team of 5 grew into a team of 23.

We searched far and wide globally for (unconventional) experts in the advertising industry who covered all types of categories. We managed to score 29 esteemed guests such as Russel Howcroft and Kimberlee Wells (CEO of TBWA Melbourne and TBWA/Adelaide), panellists on The Gruen Transfer, Andrew Hutchison (Creative Director at Walt Disney Studios Melbourne), Tom Curtis (Creative lead at MediaCom UK), internet famous artist Struthless, and many more accomplished and inspiring guests.

Oh, did I also mention that we scored our students some quick briefs from Tokyo? We got that too.

This year’s Hungry Talks was open to the public for the first time, so it was not limited to only students. We had international viewers coming in from Hong Kong, Canada, China, and even Kenya.

Hungry Talks was promoted on Clemenger’s twitter, as well as featured on two B&T articles written and co-written by our strategist and copywriter, Perri Kapnias, which you can read over here and there!

MY PART IN HUNGRY TALKS

︎ ︎ ︎ ︎
︎ See our social media accounts and my work here!︎

I’m Hungry Talk’s phantom member, the one who takes the reigns of the art direction position and absolutely refuses to appear on air. My responsibilities and tasks as Art Director were creating content for our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube and TikTok), graphic design and animation for production use, and taking second-year interns under my wing who were creating extra content used for social media. I established our current branding with the theme of a 70s game show and made sure it was consistent throughout all our deliverables.

I took in various critics from our mentor and my team members to further develop our branding. Rebranding a rebrand was something I haven’t done before and I faced challenges, but one my mind enlightened me with a great idea. I created a new and improved designs to modernise our designs with on trend aesthetics and techniques, while incorporating timeless objects from the 70s to accentuate the timestamp. This involved collaborating 2D illustrations with 3D product mock-ups, thus creating a unique visual to our designs.

This development not only improved our branding, but my skills to push my limits on my creative thinking and ideation skills while critically taking on feedback. I was also able to polish my skills on Illustrator, and develop my skills on AfterEffects, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Within the brainstorming phase of Hungry Talks, I assisted with hunting for potential industry experts who could cover all sides of the advertising industry. We found interesting individuals who worked within policy affairs to even media buying to invite as guests, and they were all very passionate about inspiring upcoming talent. I helped reaching out to potential guests for our show, or even guests for our segments.

Hungry Talks gave me the opportunity to work together with an amazing team and introduced me to a whole different world of live production and media with our production crew. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating our expertise to produce such an amazing outcome with our hard work!
