VICTORIAN ELECTORAL COMMISSION

“BE HEARD” 2020     SHORTLISTED CAMPAIGN

Nowadays, youth percieve voting as something you NEED to do, and lack the feel of importance to their say, when in fact their vote is as powerful as everybody elses’.

problem

many Victorians (aged between 18-29) are not aware of the local council election’s existance but also hold a lack of mind awareness too. They perceive council elections of low importance, don’t recall recieving a ballot pack in the mail or just forgot to vote. These are just but the few many reasons taken from the large bucket to as why there are poor participation rates for council elections.

insight

just like national elections, council elections are very much just as important as they deal with services essential to their daily lives. Voting in council elections is a large responsibility, and most importantly, a right to have your say. Contributing to their local community can be beneficial, especially since everybody deals with these services everyday.

idea

talking to our target audience with the language they understand would ideal to connect and resonate to their interests and values. Creating relevance and relatability through popular culture reference with internet trends and popular games (such Animal Crossing) generates interest in creating a stand in the community. Furthermore, a cute and chubby cat mascot would create recognision and remembrance, and also a little fun!
